[:1]For anyone that was in the channel last night while I was venting my frustrations about my new computer setup this is for you. I FIXXED it at last !!

So heres the new rig...
Operating system - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor AMD Phenom II 1045T Six-Core Processor
Memory 8GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM memory
Graphics card -** 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5570 Series graphics card ** Changed to a 1GB Nvidia Geforce Gtx 460
Sound card - Realtek High Definition Audio with up to 7.1 surround sound capabilities
Power supply - 700 watt Coolmax
monitor - Lg 23" Flatron E2350V Led
Symptoms were - I couldnt play any of the 4 games Im currently enjoying except Guildwars..The computer screen would go black and be non responsive and Id have to reboot the machine after a few minutes of Quake 4 or Starcraft 2. D2 wouldnt load Fullscreen only Window mode but that turned out to be something else. Had to go to C: program files, right click on the D2 exe and click Compatibility tab and select Disable Desktop Composition, Run as Admin, and Run in Compatibility mode as Windows Xp Service pack 3..
I originally thought my issue was driver related as there are mulitple threads on the Nvidia forum discussing problems with this particular card. I then, after several cold pops and much discussion with the banana channel folks, decided it could be power supply related issue as I only had a 450 watt power supply. So this am I got the new 700W Coolmax Ps and installed it, Added an upgraded Cpu Fan with a huge heat sink, Uninstalled and reloaded the video card drivers, and finally I selected force on vertical sync in the Nvidia control panel.
I checked all my games afterwards and they all worked fine. I played SC2 today for 3 hours straight and didnt have any issues. This video card runs Sc on highest settings pretty flawlessly. Makes the game looks realy nice. So if your in the market and have the patience to deal with some minor setup issues, I highly reccommend the Nvidia Geforce GTX 460.
BRING ON D3 , I R READY !!!!|||Quote:

+1! It's a great card and you can overclock the twangers out of it too. Got mine running at a very happy 800Mhz (from the stock 675Mhz). I can probably go higher but there's nothing that I play that needs any more grunt.

The 460 was a good upgrade, the factory overclocked FTW editions are really good performance for the money which is unusual for a factory OCed board.|||Quote:
I cant play D2 and IM dying here.. Anyone ???
Run the D2Vidtest from your D2 install folder. I found that when I played with D3D turned on I get the problem you have. I play my KTA runs in software mode and I have no problems and D3D does not make D2 that much more pretty.
Failing that I think the glide wrapper also works. I can't remember all my finding but I did delve into D2 and Win7 x64 and IIRC software and glide worked with a full screen and D3D performed best within a window. Have a play about, I'm sure you'll find something that will work for you.
EDIT: I play software mode with no compatibility too.|||Well it somehow miraclesly started working after the 3rd overall install. I was starting to worry I might not get to play my beloved D2 ever again...

edit - and yes I run in it compatibility mode, Windows Sp3, diable desktop composition,as administrator, and in 2d mode as well|||2 x 460 in sli mode are awesome, they are nearly on par with the latest 580.
over here in the uk they are about 120 so you can get 2 for 250 where as a 580 will set you back 400.

That would have been the first place I looked. Funnily enough, the world still hasn't adapted much to 64-bit software.
