Duriel

Am I the only person having problems killing Duriel in norm?

The only character I have managed to solo Duriel with so far has been a lvl19 Trap sin. Even my lvl 24 fireball sorc with tele died in a couple hits (250 life, rest mana except str for gear) who died while I was hitting esc to save and exit...|||Duriel is rather hard considering how early you need to fight him, but he's definitely not impossible.

The key to killing Duriel is to get him while he's attacking your tanks. By the time you get to him, you should try to get max cold resist for yourself and your mercenary, as well as some boots with faster run/walk if you're a ranged character. An act 2 mercenary at about level 20 should last around 6-10 seconds without dying. Put together a stock of rejuvenation potions to keep in your belt and you could potentially extend your merc's life to about 40 seconds. If you have high enough attack power with your main skill, you should be able to dispatch him quickly.

If you are a melee character, it's much harder. Fill up your belt with as many rejuvenation potions as you can and use them only on yourself. A cold rogue isn't a bad idea to help slow duriel down. If you have high enough life, you should come through fine, if you don't, you'll find yourself running out of potions too quickly.

If all of your tanks die, or you run yourself down to the last couple of potions, run through your portal. Do not try to finish Duriel, even if he's almost dead. His regeneration isn't significant enough to warrant staying, so it would be better to run than risk dying. Most deaths from Duriel occur from taking risks, something you never want to do.|||Probably the cold resist that is killing me, cause I pot my merc quite a bit so he lives.

My last run through I even had him doing near 500 poison damage (socketed runes). The main problem I find is if I stop running for a second to cast, I get a few off, hit (and chilled), then can only stay 1/2 a step ahead of him so I never get time to tp as I'll get hit going in (yes I do pot but still seem to get unlucky).|||If your mercenary is able to tank Duriel for a good amount of time, you should be able to cast spells on Duriel uninhibited. If you're unable to kill him after running through all of your potions a few times, your damage output probably isn't high enough. You should be able to get him down by about half of his life in a good opening while your mercenary is distracting him if you have a good damage output.|||Weaken (skill or charges) and battle cry are important to use on normal Duriel. Both work like %DR so you're upping your and your mercs survival rate a lot. Try to get deaths sash or a rhyme shield for the occasion so you don't get chilled.

My lvl 18 barb just did Duriel yesterday. Only used a 1 point concentrate and a 1 point Battle cry. Blocking was at 30% or so (planning to go 2H, so not much in dex).

An assassin could probably pop duriel faster with 1 point in dragon talon and some CB. You'll be doing 4 attacks/second with 33% CB with 1 point DTalon and a crushflange...|||I did duriel @ 20 with a bone necro and no curse, no bone armour and untwinked gear.

just keep running , spam spells when you get the chance (ie your merc is alive).I had to go back to town once.

If your really having problems , Remember the potions that up your cold resist and some Damage reduction (duriel hits fast and weakish, a few points of PDR really stack up i find) or block.|||Drink a couple of thawing potions before you charge down the hole, and give Waheed a few too. It's the same with Andariel; I always see people dying to her in public games, yet no one (except for me) loads up on antidote pots before the fight. That's my two cents, anyway.|||Even for summoners they have to get Decrep (lvl 24) to have any reasonable chance of beating him safely|||Just get someone to help you do him: group or a high level. With TPPK gone public games are a lot easier to come by.

If you want to solo then confirm what class you're using as there aren't that many generic strategies applicable to every class.

On top of what has already been said though, buy 40 or so thawing potions and drink half of them yourself and feed the other half to your merc. Each potion extends the duration of the effect so you and your merc will be all set with 85(?) cold resistance for a good 5-10minutes which could make a lot of difference against duriel's cold based attacks.

And a sorc should actually have it the easiest. Your merc only needs to tank for like 3 seconds while you static Duriel to 1% hp and then finish him off with a few spells while using teleport to keep away. (but if your merc dies I suggest you go revive him before continuing the fight just as an additional safety measure)|||Quote:

Actually, I beat him, quite easily, at level 22 with my current Necromancer.

Necessary itamz: Merc w/ okay-ish polearm + thawing potions, Clay Golem, Mana(pots), Amplify Damage(curse) and balls!

How:

Give your mercenary 3-5 thawing potions before stepping into Duriel's Lair. you may try to have your other summons up, but they won't last but a few short seconds and then you'll be left with your best two friends; Clay Golem and Emilio.

For some reason, Duriel hates Clay Golem worse than Emilio and will take his attention away from the latter to attack the former. Abuse the weak AI by constantly keeping Clay Golem in his face whilst casting Hamplify Jammage onto his face with Emilio plugging away and win the cake!
