Torchlight Hardcore

Long time diablo HC fan here. For a change of pace I picked up Torchlight, and dove right into HC mode on very hard...with no prior experience of the game whatsoever. Seven characters later I am still trying to break through level 9, and am having a blast. Someday...I hope to make it to level 100 with a HC character.

Worth checking out for all you HC fanatics out there. The boss fights are tough...no walk in the park. Do you have the right stuff?|||Quote:

I'm at level 8/my second character... first one got owned at the entrance to the 2nd floor of the mine ^^

Loving it so far, though honestly I think the skill trees in Mythos were thought out much better so I'm a bit disappointed there, but otherwise I'm loving it and am about to go play more ~_~|||Dead at floor 23/level 22 that time.|||Got the demo on Friday. Played through to about level 5 on easy before going to bed... I was quite drunk, the controls were confusing.

I got a full version of the game on Saturday and started a new character on normal HC. Currently he's level 19 and I haven't killed him yet, though there have been a few close calls.

Haven't tried very hard mode yet, but I'm sure it won't be pretty. Maybe I'll do that now.

-hps

Edit: I tried a Vanquisher with a bow in VH mode and died at level 2 on the second floor. It was pretty pathetic really.|||I have been through about 15 RIPs on Very Hard Hardcore. My latest incarnation is a gunslinger alchemist, who is now level 23, and going very cautiously through the dungeons. The difficulty really ramps up around level 23+ so I am not sure how much longer he will last.

He is using a unique rifle, normal attack, with a few enchants on it...mainly to get the second socket. By saving up and transmuting gems from my other characters I have a few max level (named) gems for those sockets. The rifle has better targeting than the spells cast from wands, and a nice range on it, so I can nail mobs before they see me, if I inch up on them. I spam ember bolts for crowd control when I get swarmed--four self-aiming bolts with knockback, and have a golem to tank for me. I am hoping this guy will be my ticket home.

If you hope to survive the last few levels before the final boss fight better get your resists up to around 350+. Big elemental dmg on those levels from multiple sources. The defense skill acts as a multiplier to +resists on items, so that is not quite as hard as it sounds, but given the fact that I am always broke, I am not sure yet how that will be accomplished.

Btw, gambling is a very good source of sets and uniques. Much higher chance than in D2. And there are some awesome set and unique items--many more than in D2. On VH HC you need them. My gunslinger currently has over 40% crit chance, and 70% increased crit dmg from sets and uniques, and a couple of +4 crit chaos gems.

Enchanting is ok, but very expensive for sets and uniques. I have limited myself to 5 enchants per item for every thing else (rares and magicals). But I have had bad luck. Ruined 5 uniques already. So I am currently scared of using the enchanter. The people who create godly items with enchanting are obviously using a third-party progam to create millions for themselves in game, so they have endless chances to create their items.|||Quote:

Seriously enchanting a 1000dps weapon out of a low end weapon isnt that expensive with enchant skill + moneymaking skill. cost about 1000 gold per try. Also, 50% chance to get 38 enchants before item losing its mods.|||Quote:

Well, in that case, then the enchanting feature needs to be balanced by a good mod, because thats way too easy. My experience is primarily with sets and uniques, which are very expensive..and I seem to have bad luck with enchanting.

In any case, I am sure many good mods, designed to make the game more challenging, will be appearing soon after the release of TorchED. Heck, there are already dozens of mods available, even before the editor.|||Wow, this game looks exactly like D3. I might give it a try if it has a stable online hardcore community. Though, it kind of reminds me of Shrek for some reason.|||Quote:

It's a single player game atm.

They're making an MMO version too but that is not out.|||Anyone know where i can download this or would it be best if i bought it straight?
