Walking around with club and shield costs a lot of health. Found a throwing knife and started using it to much better results. Found a javelin which did the same job and a bow and arrows later on. Took me some time to realise the Shamans revive the Fallen and the revived fallen do not give any exp to exploit. Cleared the first zone and then the Den of Evil to complete the first quest. Not wanting to go back to town yet with my only scroll of townportal I moved on to the cold plains and found a waypoint. Found the cave and entered it. Pretty much cleared the place out. Used Shift + Shoot to defeat some nasty archer women one of which was cold enchanted which left a nasty riung of ice on her death. Went through 3 cracked sashes which all broke before finally hitting level 6.
Wolf is OP?|||welcome to the forums and also to diablo
u do set urself quite a challenge there. good luck and dont rip
if u want a big fat tank later on, putting one or more skills into the wolfs is neccessary. always depends on what kind of build ur going for|||Attempt: 1

Blood Raven did quite a bit of damage but resummoning Wolf helped a lot. Gonna improve my summoning skills a lot. Had been saving up points to see which tree I wanted to specialise in but it's deffinitely summoner. Super save.
Archer girl starts following me so I gave her my bow and some hard leather suit. I try to clean up zones as much as possible to get as much exp as I can get. When I got the scroll in Dark Woods I had to return to Stone Fields to complete the 3th quest. I found a pegleg and a green named Shield in tristram (Husarus Iron Fist Buckler? (on the top of my head)).
I can now have 4 wolves with me. Seems a bit OP when you get the skill on higher levels. Is there a limit?|||Planning on going through all three difficulties like that or just normal?|||I plan to go as far as I can. beating the endboss on the last difficulty seems to be an appropriate end.
Attempt: 1

Returning to where I was I cleared the tower, the hole, Tamoo highlands and the Pit. The wolves make it mindnumbingly easy though so I decide to just move on towards wherever I need to go and I find the MOnestairy.
How is this place logic? Sure having a barracks inside is okay. The Jails being below the barracks are logical too. But the inner cloister being accecable only though the jails seems a bit.... oh well.
I apparently missed the Jail level 1 waypoint but I got the other ones. In the Catacombs level 2 I faced my first challange since Blood Raven. There were 3 "boss" Dark Shamans next to each other with a huge amount of normal shamans. The bosses kept reviving the normal shamans and 2 of them had "extra strong". Wolves died really fast but I pulled through with the many mana potions I had in my inventory.
On level 4 I faced Andariel who was not all that hard. The poison kiled my wolves really fast but the wolves did a lot of damage too. Pitty Aliza died too. I will miss her.
R.I.P. Aliza.|||Just so you know you can resurrect your mercenary (Aliza) and hire different kinds in each act, act 2 mercs are very popular for their auras. In act 2 talk to Greiz to resurrect the old mercenary or higher a new one.|||I went into the sewers in act 2 and : / Died. That Radament guy had lots of elemental skelletons and I ran out of potions midway though. Level 15 was all I could get. Either act 2 is a lot harder then act 1 or I was really unlucky/cocky.
I downloaded a level 99 character adn patched too. At the least I can now make my characters to be actually Hardcore.
Attempt: 2

Fought my way back up to the Dark Woods. Except for the cold enchanted archer in the Cave everything seemed easier. I will not be fooled however. I will get every point of Exp I can so I don't face another tragedy in Act 2.|||Quote:

Playing in the scavenge style of play that you have selected, you had better kill everything you can to get exp & I suspect you will still get defeated a few more times by some of the surrounding swarms.
Diablo 2 is "easy" in the sense that you can build a character to beat everything. But you can't just start a new character and expect him to beat everything (especially in melee).
I bid you good luck! And I am jealous of your "newness" to the game.

Act II is harder than Act I, but there isn't really anything very difficult in Normal, in any Act, once you know the game. I'd say that DII is more a game of knowledge (and of patience and consistency) than of skill, though.
From your post I assume you're playing Single Player. I'd look into the "players" setting if I were you. If you were clvl 15 when you hit Radament you were playing on "players1," which is the default. Most people who play hardcore, and particularly most people who play single pass untwinked hardcore play on "players8" through Normal and Nightmare.
On Players 8 the monsters have a lot more life and do significantly more damage, but they also give quite a bit more experience, and drop more items. You level a lot faster on P8, and in the early part of the game your level will wind up being quite a bit higher than the area level. This has a number of advantages.
The obvious ones are more skill and stat points, but monsters have a hard time hitting you and your merc if you are higher than their level. If you are well above the area level your merc can pretty easily handle everything (and if you load him up with magic find gear and let him do most of the killing you might find some nice gear, which will be important for you if you aren't using shops.)

I decided my first run to be Hardcore + Scavenge. Scavenge meaning I can't use any vendor option. Talking to Akama in town etc for healing is still allowed but I can't buy Weapons, potions or scrolls.
Rules:
-Hardcore mode. (For the first playthough I will just implent the rule death = deletion.)
-Scavenge mode. . (No buying/Selling allowed.
-Easy mode off. (You cannot go to zones that you have already passed unless you need to be there for a quest.
Just started a paladin which will be zeal / holy shock / holy freeze if I get that far. Name: BraveSirRobin. Already almost L6 just from clearing the Blood Moor.
I can understand not buying equipment, but I'm not sure about the other stuff. No scrolls or pots hurts. Are you allowed to talk to Cain to get stuff ID'ed? What about repairing? Lack of repair seems like a critical problem for melee'ers and lack of mana pots a critical problem for casters...
