As the newb above you said, channel: Op Xbananax is the place to be; most of the people you'll encounter are friendly/truthworthy and a blast to play with.

You want Gauss it's sort of the HC Forums/xbananax sister channel that is located on the Europe server.

You have to read the first post in that thread and follow the instructions in order to become a member (you can't just pop in).

I looked into Gauss, but frankly I'm not interested in an overpretentious elitist group of people, nor in writing a freaking application lol and kissing their *** so someone will vouch for me.
So, are there any alternatives?

The application and rules are there for a reason. It is to prevent PKers, haters and idiots from joining in and ruining the splendid community.

Gauss had some fine people in there last time I peeked in. Most communities that are still active have some sort of signup process to 'prove' that you're not a undesirable, or rather, that you actually want to play with nice folks.

I want to play with some decent, down to earth, friendly players; I don't want to write an essay for some deluded, supposedly "power"-mad people's amusement. It doesn't matter how fine some of the people in the group are.
I fail to see how that's pretentious. Maybe you're a little misled on the word's meaning?
