Hello, I'm QviZik, new to the incgamers community and Diablo 2 itself. I've read up on the game and it seems that I've missed out on a great game, so I went down to the store and bought it and will soon make my new character. But before I do that I have a few questions I would like to have answered.
First off, I've read about Softcore and Hardcore mode, and at the moment I'm leaning towards Hardcore. I like the approach of dying with your character and you lose everything, it adds a certain kind of depth/flavor to the game. I know that many of you would recommend me to play Softcore due to me being new and all, but It just seems so dull and I'm a fairly experienced RPG gamer.
So basicly what I would like to know is, how good is the Hardcore community? Are there many players? How's the activity? Any good clans/guilds? and which realm has the largest Hardcore community?, Europe?, USEast?. Thanks in advance for the answers.|||The game used to make you play one character softcore before even letting you start a hardcore character. But there was ways to get around that and finally Blizzard changed it so you can go right with HC on your very first character.
Either Europe or USEast are your best bet for finding other players. There are a couple of "meet-up" threads here that you might want to check out for that activity:

As Zappa said there are places you can go, like Op xbananax on Useast, but the hard part isn't meeting friends, it's keeping them.
A lot of HC players don't last. My friends list was full of active players less than a week ago and now it's probably down to 5 who still play HC. A lot of people die, get frustrated and either quit or switch to Softcore.|||Considering the game was released in 2000 you are a tad bit late. Alas there are still people playing this 10 year old game and over the years its had its ups and downs. Currently it might be in its best playable state thats it been in a while.
Some of the hacks that have plagued the game for years have been dealt with, difficulty has been nerfed, and loot drop rates seem to have increased.
Id reccommend going HC as it does change the way you play the game quite a bit. As you mentioned your an experienced Rpg player Id go HC.Dying is the hardest and frustrating part and WILL happen, just dont get too frustrated and in time youll be playing around 10 - 11 years like we all have...
