Anyone up for the task? Where could I find someone to chat with?

Sorry but, why is it so much harder or slower in 1.13 than i 1.09? I'm not quite up to date on the patch differences here.
As for the build... I've pretty much not placed out any points yet, just playing gimped until I'm sure what to go for! Leaning towards WW / Conc
As for untwinked, thats the only way I can go, I wish I had some gear like Strijdje had for his Lycan wolfbarb still, are there many people that have gone to 99 untwinked on hc? I'd like to speak with one!

all i can say is, u could get a lot faster to lvl 99 in that patch. in doubt u gotta ask in the SP forum. those guys know more, than i do|||Figured I'd jump in, I don't really have any experience with hardcore mode, but I have played on the realms since the .09 patch and the xp penalties were no where near as severe as they are in the 1.13 patch. There were some baal games, but no where near as many cow games due to the sheer number of cows you could kill in a short time period.|||Quote:
I've just started out planning for my first single-player untwinked 99 HC char and I was wondering if there are someone here that got something to say on builds and ways to attack this.. I got quite a few questions so I'd really love it if there was somewhere I could get in touch with one or two of the HC oldies here

Unpossible, especially with a melee barb.
The reason it's much easier to level to 99 in 1.09 is:
Quote:
- Reduced the effectiveness of Experience runs, power-leveling, and
leeching.
- Cut Experience and reduced drops in the Cow level.
Leveling to 99 in 1.09 was just a flurry of Hell Cow runs on /players 8 setting.
After the patch to 1.10 (and continued through to the current 1.13 patch) the experience penalties are staggering.
There is a leveling chart here (it's old, so you will have to wait 15 second or so for the link to pull it out of archive): http://web.archive.org/web/200608302...ews.php?id=512
The experience penalty from monsters starts at level 70, you really start to notice it at level 90 and by the time you hit level 95 your mouse clicking fingers will be bleeding and you will have lost your will to live.
I've heard people say that it takes longer to level from level 98 to 99 than it does to level from 1-98. I can't remember the specific number of runs but it's something asinine and well over 2500 Baal runs. The chances of you not dieing during that many solo /players 8 Baal runs with an untwinked melee character are slim to none... Gloams, Dolls, Tenticals, Lister, etc.
You will need a high damage ranged character at the very least. One with crowd control and one that can move around quickly to avoid danger. A trapsin or sorc (blizzballer) come to mind.
Run Hell Mephisto (at /players 3 or 5) until you hit level 90 or so - you can mix in some of the item level 95 areas in Act 1 & 2 Hell also and collect as much gear from them as you can.
Then run Hell Pindle from 90-94 or so (at /players 8). You should be looking at less than 45 seconds per Pindle run at this point
Then once you hit level 95 you move onto Hell Baal runs (and optional Hell Chaos Sanctuary runs - if you can survive them). You will need stacked resistances, FHR and FCR to survive in both places (some Lower Resist for your enemies would be gravy). And your merc will need to be a nuclear bomb proof tank if you are to keep your sanity (Fade, ftw).
If you decide to run the Hell Chaos Sanctuary, remember that you are there to kill Diablo. Ignore all the other monsters (except the Seal bosses... which you have to kill to spawn Diablo). Ignore all other monsters (teleport is useful here).
And when you're running Hell Baal, remember that you are there to kill Baal. The minions will offer experience at first, but you have to kill them anyway. Ignore all other monsters along the way... it's a waste of your time.
And since you are playing Single Player, you will have the benefit of static maps. So make sure you re-roll your maps until you get a good one. You want as short a distance as possible from the Way Point in Act 5 to the Thrown room (3-4 teleports to each stair case if possible). Or a very short running distance if you're not using a Sorc.
You will die along the way, but if you mule off the equipment you find you can use it to build a stronger (twinked) character the next time around.
Good Luck, and please accept the fact that your first character will fail... probably your first 10 characters will fail at some point along the way... just remember to have fun.

Edit: fixed incorrect area name for Chaos Sanctuary due to my own noobness.|||Quote:

****! Loads of good advice here, thanks a lot mate!

As for build, do you have any suggestion for what a barb does best for the 5 final levels? I guess I am asking for the safest and fastest at the same time!|||Quote:

I'm not really much of an authority on melee characters (mostly I played caster or ranged characters), so maybe someone else can chime in with better information than me regarding the above questions.
However, I would think that a Barb could run the item level 95 areas fairly safely (with the right equipment/damage) - but those areas will never get you to level 99. He could run Shenk and Eldritch too I suppose.
In theory, he could do any of the areas in the end of the game, including Hell Baal. But anytime you take a melee character near Dolls you had better have your wits about you. And from a practical point of view, running (instead of teleporting) is a slow way to approach it, especially when you're looking at the colossal number of runs it will take to get to level 99.

Realistically, after level 97 or so the only monsters that give you any kind of usable experience are Hell Baal and Hell Diablo, because their monster levels are so high and they give large amounts of experience to start with.
With a correctly built character, it is possible to pop the seals and kill Hell Diablo in a multiplayer game while the Baal teleporter is journeying to the Throne Room and setting things up. You can kill Diablo and make it down the TP to the Thrown Room in time for the 2nd or 3rd wave if you're good and the experience gained from Hell Diablo is well worth it compared to the missed experience from Baal's 1st and 2nd waves of minions. Of course none of that Baal teleporter/multiplayer stuff applies to Xzift, since he is talking Single Player runs. But it can still be a nice (and useful) change of scenery.
