I just recently picked up a new copy of D2 after having quit the game about five years ago. I was amazed to see all of the crazy new features and items introduced to the game since I left. I especially like the new re-spec feature.
I am thinking about making a Fishmancer on US-East. I want to know what YOU think the best uber twinked version of a Fishmancer should like like. I realize I won't ever get most of these items but I want to know what to shoot for. This is an all-around PvM build. My tentative proposed build and end-game items are below:
Build:
Max (In this order): Raise Skeleton; Skeleton Mastery; Corpse Explosion
1pt: All curses; Bone armor; Iron Golem; Summon Resists; Skeleton Mage;
More points as needed: Golem Mastery; Dim Vision; Amp Dmg
Items:
Shield: Stormshield + UM Switch: Spirit Monarch
Weapon: Heart of the Oak Flail Switch: CtA Flail
Helm: Shako + UM
Gloves: Trangs
Armor: Enigma Mage Plate
Amulet: Perf Mara's
Belt: T god’s
Ring one: Ravenfrost/Dwarfstar
Ring three: Wisp Project
Boots: Hotspurs
Charms: Torch; Gheeds; Anni; 5x +15 resist all grand charms; 7x +5 all resist small charms
Iron Golem made from insight
Act 2 Might Mercenary: Eth Chains of Honor; Giant Skull/Guil's face, Infinity Polearm (for conviction!)
This set-up nets the following without hellfire and anni:
Actual resistances: 232 cold/ 187 fire/167 Lightning/142 poison
Effective resistances: 75 cold/90 fire/85 lightning/75 poison
50% PDR
15% Fire Absorb/20% Cold Absorb
15-20% Lightning Absorb
Please tell me what you think. Thanks!|||Quote:

Is this for all around PvM, PvUbers or pure Baal running or ?
As far as building an uber-twinked character goes, satisfying these goals is always fun:
Max Block
50% Damage Reduction
50 Damage Reduction
75% Resist all with either 125% stacked for Uber-Mephisto or 80 res all stack for conviction or just 80 light res stacked for the odd conviction gloam pack.
FHR breakpoints such that it's at or better than your FCR breakpoint to allow safe teleporting.
Extra Light Res/Lightning Absorb
Extra Fire res/Fire Absorb
Extra neat things are:
Having a ton of inventory space: 4x4 space + horadric cube
Battle Order - CTA/Barb
More +skillers.
Given the above list, here's what I'd do, just off the top of my head:
Shako +2, 10%DR, 50MF (Shael)
Enigma +2, 8%DR, ~90MF
Wizardspike +75 res all, 50%FCR (+30 Light res jewel)
Homunculus +40 res all, +skills (PDiamond for 58 res all)
Magefist +1 fire skills works for CE. Bigger CE = Awesome. Oh, and 20%FCR.
Thundergod's Vigor [Gloams will never be a problem again...]
Hotspur/Infernostride/Treks/Awesome rares/etc
This nets:
70% FCR - 11 Frame casting (You need 5 more to hit the breakpoint: FCR ring OR caster amulet)
20% FHR - 10 frame hit recovery. Next BP is +6 FHR away.
20% FBR - 8 frame blocking animation
(-100)+30[anya quest]+75+58 = 63 res all in Hell.
That's with no charms and 2 rings and the amulet slot open. Add in a decent amulet, FCR ring and another ring of whateverness and you'll easily be maxed.
Add a Hellfire Torch, Annihilarious and a few charms and you'd be lightning immune, outside of Uber Tristram.
My mercenary would use Duress, Guillaume's Face and an 'Edge' Blade Bow.
And Clay Golem, for gourd's sake.
Or something. I mean, I don't even know what I just wrote, so don't believe anything or trust anybody. You've been warned.|||Quote:

Poison necros are the fastest killers if that is what you want, id go for

I should have been clearer: I am looking to build a Fishmancer.

What does it mean to stack resistances? Specifically, what do you mean when you say 80 res stacked for conviction?
I edited my proposed build and items after doing a little research last night--take a look if you'd like. Thanks!|||Quote:

It seems like you don't enjoy the same choice as I. It must be a tough world.

Conviction takes your resists down. It's a debuff aura. The max it can do to your character, outside of Uber Tristram, is -80 resist all. You can stack resists against this so that you're always maxed in every resist, or you can focus on the element that would likely kill you: lightning, like from burning souls/black souls/gloams.
Your revised build looks fine.
Rings: Anything could go there. Ravenfrost and Dwarf/Wisp aren't really going to save you either way. Some nice rare rings would probably do more for ya.
Also, the maxed 85 lightning resist and point based lightning absorb on Thundergod's Vigor is way better than the percentage based absorb on the Wisp Projector. The belt offers all you'll ever need.
Iron Golem - If you can bother dealing with it, an 'Insight' IG is pretty nifty. It'll suck when it dies; you'll just have to keep making them because they seem to poof or die in strange ways, out of nowhere.
I'm probably the wrong type for 'uber builds'. Where are all of the power-gamers at?|||Quote:

I don't see how they could hurt. I'd prefer them over SoJ's for survivability reasons.

Im working on my new one as wel but Ive got a loooong way to go...|||Here is what my Single Player MF summoner wears:
Gear:
Weapon: Gull Dagger - 10% mf jewel (110% mf)
Shield: Rhyme Preserved Head - Yep, 5 defense (25% mf)
Helm: Harlequin - Ptopaz (74% mf)
Armour: 'Wealth' Dusk Shroud (100% mf)
Belt: Goldwrap - Upped for an extra row of pots (30% mf)
Gloves: Chance Guards (37% mf)
Boots: War Traveler (49% mf)
Ammy: (Magic) +8 Resist all, +21% mf
Ring: Nagel (22% mf)
Ring: Nagel (24% mf)
Merc:
Might
Weapon: 'Insight' Thresher (23% mf)
Armour: 'Gemmed' Gothic Place - 4 Ptopaz (96% mf)
Helm: 'Gemmed' Superior Helm - 2 Ptopaz (48% mf)
My point?
You don't really need to twink summoner necros that much!
Everyone else has posted sound advise, which I don't really need to add to. So I just wanted to make sure you realize that you shouldn't spend too much time planning gear and remind you to go and actually PLAY!
Besides, if you haven't played the game for 5 years, you will probably die anyway... so might as well get it over with! :P
-hps|||My necro is now level 31 and is looking to take on baal.
He is definitely not twinked. My account name is *KavnSardetta on US East HCL if you'd like to talk to me in-game.|||Here's what my level 73 necro wears right now:

Amulet: Perf Mara's
Belt: T god’s
Ring one: Dwarfstar
Ring two: Wisp Projector
Boots: Upped Hotspurs

Iron Golem made from meatscraper
